Money talks on radio

Standard Bank Group (SBG) is launching a series on local community radio stations around South Africa called "Money Talks" to help consumers understand the ins and outs of money.

Our aim is to reach about 1.2 million people through the radio campaign, which will be combined with a print and an intensive outreach campaign. The financial literacy campaign is part of our initiative to extend banking to under-serviced communities. Key features include delivering affordable and accessible financial services through branchless banking.

The 16-week series of "Money Talks" will be broadcast in eight languages, starting at four Community Radio Stations and extending to a total of 10. The series will run from the 22 February until November 2010.

Experts featured in the series will include our branch managers as well as community bankers based across South Africa. They will help local consumers come to grips with financial literacy.

The campaign comes at a good time as the recession has made consumers increasingly concerned about managing their money.

"The most powerful capital of all is knowledge because it allows people to make sound financial decisions. Consumer education should not be seen as a grudge offering, but as an integral part of the bank's service" says Coenraad Jonker, Director of Community Banking at SBG.
